Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675)

Johannes Vermeer Johannes Vermeer was one of the most important painters of the Dutch Golden Age, however his works were only recognized in the late 19th century. Until now 35 paintings have been verified as Vermeer's works. Vermeer is known for his use of bright colors and use of light in his works. Vermeer mostly made genre works and portraits, one of these portraits is the famous Girl with a Pearl Earring, one of Vermeer's masterpieces also known as "the Mona Lisa of the North".
