Guernica is a painting by Pablo Picasso painted in response to the bombing of Guernica (Spain) by German and Italian forces at the behest of the Spanish Nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War on 26 April 1937.
The painting has the enormous dimensions of 3.49 meters (11 ft) tall and 7.776 meters (25.6 ft) wide, and consists of the colors black, grey and white only.
It shows the town of Guernica during the bombing, the suffering of people and animals, chaos and wrenched buildings.
The painting has become a reminder of the tragedies of war and an anti-war symbol.
